Historical Flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
Also known as the Soviet flag, it was the official state flag of the Soviet Union from 1922 – 1991. The design consists of a red background with a gold hammer and sickle topped by a gold-bordered red star in the upper hoist quadrant. The crossed hammer and sickle represent the union of industrial and agricultural workers while the red star represented the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. This historical-themed flag is meant to be used as a reminder of world history and the Cold War.
