Kentucky Orphan Brigade Battle Flag Printed 100 denier polyester
The 1st Kentucky Brigade also known as the Kentucky Orphan Brigade was made up of six different Kentucky infantry regiments, some of which carried a dark blue flag with an upright red Christian Cross in the center adorned with thirteen white stars. This flag design was not popular on the battlefield as it sometimes appeard as a black flag when furled. A religious Christian theme is noticeable in the design of many Civil War era battle flags both on the Union and Confederate sides as most of the men involved were devout Christians and the symbolism was important as well as inspiring.
Artwork is visible on both sides of the flag.
