Pre-Islamic Revolution Lion and Sun Flag of Iran 1907 – 1979
Printed 100 denier polyester 3×5 flag. The design features a lion clutching a sword, standing in front of a rising sun, all colored in gold against the center white band of the green–white–red horizontal tricolor banner. It served as the national flag of Iran from 1907 to 1979. This design is a historic Iranian national symbol, also used as a statement of opposition to the hard-line Islamic Republic established after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, and displaying this flag was banned. Since 1979, the flag has no official status but is often displayed as a historical and political symbol, especially among those opposed to the theocratic regime. The artwork is visible from both sides of the flag.
