Printed 100 denier polyester Imperial Japan Rising Sun flag consisting of a red disc and sixteen rays emanating therefrom thus symbolizing the rising sun. This flag design was first used by feudal warlords during the Edo period from 1603 – 1868. The flag was adopted by the Japanese Imperial Army as their war flag on May, 15th 1870 and by the Japanese Imperial Navy on October, 7th 1889 as the naval ensign. The rising sun flag was used as a military wartime flag throughout WWII. The artwork is visible on both sides of the flag.
