Sizes Ranging From 16″x 24″ – 4’x6′ “Come and Take It” Heavy Sewn Cotton Flags

These are beautifully appliqued and sewn cotton flags. Cotton flags feature a very heavy, luxurious look and feel. They are commonly used indoors because of their old-world, hand-crafted appearance but can also be flown outside at parades and special events, although they are not very durable or fade-resistant with prolonged exposure to the outdoor elements. Cotton flags are also suitable for framing and hanging indoors. The artwork is viewable from both sides and the lettering reads correctly from one side.

  • Heavy, soft cotton fabric
  • Appliqued and embroidered details
  • Heavy canvas header with brass grommets
  • 4 rows of stitching on the fly end

History of the Gonzales flag

The famous Come and Take It Gonzales flag was painted by Cynthia Burns and Evaline DeWitt on a cotton cloth and flown at Gonzales Texas in late September 1835 which was the site of the first battle in the Texas war for independence from Mexico. Because of concerns about a Texas rebellion, Mexican troops were sent to recover a cannon that had been given to the town to fight off occasional Indian attacks. In a display of defiance, the Texans, refusing to be disarmed, fired on the Mexican troops, compelling them to withdraw. The Gonzales flag has become a popular symbol of second amendment rights nationwide and other variations of the design have since been created.
